V-1 or VF700-Cu

Post by EvilNick » Wed Aug 17, 2005 8:56 pm

I currently have an old Silencer Rev3 on my 9800Pro. It's gotten abit worn over time and I've had to re-oil the fan once or twice to keep it going smoothly. I'm now considering a switch to a new video card cooler and it's down to the V-1 or VF700-Cu.

On one hand, the V-1 should be much better performance wise and it's only RM50 more expensive here. It should be just as quiet as the VF700-Cu since the huge surface dissipation area affords the use of a fan at 5V.

On the other hand, it's gonna be a tight fit with my XP-120 and with it's 80mm fan way up there right near the XP-120 and the exhaust fan, I'm worried it will simply create havoc with the airflow in that area. Additionally, the V-1 only seems to support up to the 6800/X800 series, so a new video card in the future like a 7800GT would render it useless.

What are your thoughts?

v1

I have an V1 with an 80 mm yateloon fan and it works great (iddle: 45ºC with the fan at 50%, load, around 65ºC). But I have an XP-90 on the CPU. I don't think it will fit with an XP-120. I tried on my mobo (an asus a8n-sli deluxe) and it didn't.

Regards.

fjf, could you provide more details about how the V1 didnt fit with the XP120 on your board?

Was the long side of the XP120 inteferring with the V1? The XP120 is L110 x W125 x H63, and the Scythe Ninja is 110 x 110 x 150mm. I am looking at using a V1 with my Asus A8N-SLI deluxe, with the Ninja heatsink.

Based on your experiences with the XP120, V1, and the A8N-SLI, do you think it will work? My measurements suggest it will fit by only a few mm, which is good enough for me.
