x800xl recommendations

Post by preti9cboi » Tue Sep 13, 2005 4:56 pm

I did not realize how loud my fan was on my x800xl until i changed my CPU fan to a zalman. That thing is FREAKING LOUD!

Anyone have a recommendation on how to make that fan quiet or something i could attach to it?

Anyone ever use a koolance?

I have the sapphire X800XL ultimate ( http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/products ... hp?gpid=25 and http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/productf ... image1.jpg) which comes with what looks like a variant of the Zalman VF700 (see http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/vie ... 0&code=013).

I'm happy with how quiet my Sapphire Ultimate is, so maybe the VF-700 would give you better results than what you have now...

As always, your mileage may vary...

You could try ATI Tool 0.24 which can set the fan speed for different temperature points.Link:

http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

I use it for my Sapphire X800XL Ultimate with the fan speed at 25-30% (temp at 40C). Completely inaudible. When the temperature rises when playing games etc, I have it set at 60-65% when the GPU temp goes over 55C. The GPU never goes above 65C so theres no need to have the fan spinning faster. Quiet at this speed too.

I'd still recommend the Zalman VF700 mod which is essentially the same as the Sapphire Ultimate but its worth trying the ATI Tool because the fan might be spinning faster than it needs to.

thanks. I already downloaded the ATI tool. Do you know if it is possible to hook up the ZALMAN to the videocard? I believe i read it on one of these threads. Is it simple or is there a few moding i must do?

The Zalman VF700 fits perfectly for the X800XL. You can run the fan @5v if you want silence. It keeps the temp nice and cool as well.

I think mine goes straight to the PSU....been a while since I peeked inside. You will be amazed and delighted how much quieter this makes your system; that stock fan on the 800XL is like a WWII fighter parked under your desk. Hugely annoying.

One store in my town (singapore) did it for SGD$2 ~US$1.2. It takes less than 5 minute. You need connector and tool to clamp it.
