Zalman VF700-Cu & VF700-AlCu

They make noise, too.

Zalman VF700-Cu & VF700-AlCu

Aside from weight and the material, what is the difference between these two VGA coolers?

Is this a trick question? :D

When I looked at the specs for these before, the material and weight are all that I could see different. The mechanical dimensions must be compatible, since they share the same motherboard compatibility table.

It would be nice if Zalman would give C/W ratings for each, so that we could see how much better the all-Cu is.

I have no direct experience, but I'm thinking of getting one for my VGA card as well.

No, not a trick question :)

I was wondering about it because the Cu version costs more than the AlCu version and don't know why. Perhaps there is a reason besides the weight and that the all copper version may cool better?

Or perhaps the added weight has some advantage?

With the same design and other things being equal, the Cu will perform better. Cu has a higher density than Al, but also transfers heat better. So the tradeoff is between performance and weight, I think.

The Cu is the price it is because (a) copper is more expensive than aluminium, and (b) buyers are willing to pay that price for the increase in performance it provides.
