Anyone still using Zalman's ZM80A-HP?

They make noise, too.

Anyone still using Zalman's ZM80A-HP?

Post by fjsc3 » Fri Oct 20, 2006 10:02 am

Hi all,
still have a Zalman ZM80A-HP lying around and would like to use it with a modern graphics card. Nothing fancy, a Radeon X1300, X1600 or equivalent.

Is anyone still using this passive cooler with modern cards?
If so, please share your experience, i.e. video card model, installation, etc.

cheers
Ze

I'm using it on an nv6600 overclocked to 400/600MHz.

Any problems installing it?

thanks for your help.
What temp readings are you getting?

In principle if it can cool that GPU it should have no problems with a modern lower end card like a X1300 to X1800 or NV7300, right?

One thing that I'm worried about, and one never knows until you get the actual card is that a few holes are required to mount the heatsink(s). While most cards seem to have them (to hold their stock fan-based cooler), some don't. For instance (don't laugh) my very old radeon 8500 didn't have any holes in the PCB, so I was stuck with the stock cooler, which makes a somewhat annoying noise.

Since I've been stung once with the 8500, I wouldn't want to be a Guinea pig again.

So, anyone else using aftermarket heatsinks (it needn't be the same model), could you please share your experiences regarding installation - especially if your particular model had the necessary retention holes in the immediate vicinity of the GPU.

cheers

The last time i checked, the load temp didn't go above 75C. Then again, my Sonata casing is stuffed of fresh airflow. You might do better with a P150/SOLO.

btw, the X1300/X1600/nv7300/7600 should be fine with that Zalman.

I don't know about the X1800 though.

still have it on my old 6600gt.

it does need good case ventalation though. if i undervolted my case fans down too far, it would lock up during gameplay.
