They make noise, too.

x1950-pro power consumption?

Post by jamesavery22 » Mon Oct 23, 2006 7:05 am

Anyone know of any reviews that have some real numbers? Namely when compared to a 7900GS?

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2858&p=12
http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle. ... =886&cid=2
http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q4/ra ... ex.x?pg=10
http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=31 ... ert&pid=11

EDIT: My take from a brief perusal is that the power consumption is probably a bit less than a 7900GT, a bit more than a 7900GS, and that the Tech Report numbers are rather fishy.

Thanks for the comprehensive list. Sorry I should have searched more :\ The 1950pro is just a tad faster than the 7900gs, which is cheaper and easier to find and less power hungry by a few watts. I'll just keep looking for a 7900GS. Thanks again

OK but how should we interpret that chart? I mean why is a 7900GT at idle comsuming 50W more than a 1950Pro at idle? Anand has a 7900GS system idling at ~100W, which is what my 7900GT system idles at.

Discuss.

Can't compare wattage numbers between sites, or even reviews. Who knows what they are running or plug in and "forget" to mention :)

Not sure what you are trying to point out QuietOC? techreport and hothardware both show the 7900GT consuming more than the x1950pro. And Techreport and anandtech show the 7900GS consuming less than the x1950pro

Hmm, something is not right.

7900GTX consumes at most 89W (load). So basically the chart is telling that X1950 Pro consumes only 21W (68W less than 7900GTX)??? I can't believe that. Or then I can't read charts.

Different motherboards are used in the HotHardware test. Only compare nVidia cards with other nVidia cards and ATi cards with other ATi cards.

And they show the results in the same graph? That is just plain stupid. nVidia chipsets are very power hungry. Basically you can't make any conclusions on VGA power consumption from that graph.

Umm, yeah that was the subtext of my question :) Not to put too fine a point on it ... I think the Hothardware and Tech Report numbers are crap.

Sorry, wasnt reading between the lines :)

As for actual numbers xbit is the only site that I've at least read about doing worthy tests. Never seen it discussed though.
