This one looks quite promising. has very fast ram as well, one could try and overclock it and slap a big ol nexus on it.

Hello,

Is it passive, or not?
Cooling: Fan (Two-slot)

Darn. This COULD be one version, as it um... well the photo shows no fan!

SilentFX normally means passive. shrugs. yeah, this is the 256 version. no GTS sorry. confusing when a website never has the latest models, but review sites do!

There is a better version out actually and I cannot find it yet on their website.

512MB is a nice thing. I like gainward products too.

I assume the fan part in the info is wrong, it looks like the same heatsink as on their SilentFX 8500GT, it's passive dualslot. There's a .pdf available with a higher res picture, it's definately passively cooled on the picture. By the way I mentioned this card in the bigger 8600GTS thread a week ago, it uses reference clocks for the core and memory. It's just too bad 8600GT/S game performance did not improve enough, I was ready to upgrade but now I'll be sticking with my 7600GS. This card might be nice for playing HD video though and it will fit in the Fusion case.

EDIT:
SilentFX 8500GT apparently does not use reference DDR2 and core/mem clocks have been raised from reference 450/800 to 600/1200 MHz (133/150 %) with 1.4ns DDR3 which is the same spec as the 1400MHz memory on their SilentFX 8600GT, interesting.

so long as it has gddr3 and a 128 bit mem bus, it will be a worthwhile purchase.

i duno whats up with 64 bit and ddr2.... proven that 8xxx series done that way is same performance as 7000 series done that way
