VF1000 Release
I've been bugging Zalmans Q&A support, and they told me:
Dear Valued Customer,
We would like to first thank you for your interest in our VF1000.
The exact date of release has not been decided yet, but we believe that it should be released sometime towards the end of June.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Support/ZALMAN

VF1000
Its out and listed on zalmans page finally.
It is already out at online shop. http://www.sharkacomputers.com
Ok after reading the review its pretty much what I thought. It cools pretty much the same as the thermalright HR-03. It takes up less room than the HR-03 which is a plus, but its louder than the HR-03 at idle or load. So if you want a quiet solution stick with the HR-03, if you want something that takes up less space and looks better than the zalman seems to be it. I'm glad I got the HR-03, its dead quiet at load or idle and at 100% fan speed too....

Falcon: you may be right but not quite sure how you draw your conclusions from this review: "The VF1000 LED is inaudible at this setting which is more than I can say about the stock cooler...This is one of the quietest VGA card coolers capable of cooling 8800-series cards. At low the fan is almost inaudible which is really neat if you plan on building a quiet system. When you turn the knob on the fan mate to the high setting, the fan does make considerably more noise, but it's still way more quiet than the stock cooler and does a considerably better job at cooling the card."
Seems like a positive subjective response to a product that really needs more rigorous review, especially to meet SPCR review standards.
BTW: Sharka has just shipped mine.

Yeah, it seems positive. However, personally, I'm quite skeptical, because Zalman aint the best when it comes to low noise fans. Actually, it seems to me, that several here on SPCR are dissapointed by the fan on the VF-900.christopher3393 wrote:Falcon: you may be right but not quite sure how you draw your conclusions from this review: "The VF1000 LED is inaudible at this setting which is more than I can say about the stock cooler...This is one of the quietest VGA card coolers capable of cooling 8800-series cards. In this particular review, they compare to a non-specified fan at medium, and/or an Antec TriCool at medium.
At my opinion, an Antec TriCool at medium is noisy, and even at low it's still too noisy for my taste.
But it's hard to say, without trying the VF-1000, and who knows, maybe Zalman have made a better fan, than they use to?
I'll hope you'll post your impressions.
Best regards,
Thomas

I doubt that Zalman has created a much quieter fan. I'm just hoping this is a nice compromise solution w/ the fan on low. Usually Zalman cooler fans on low don't bother most people--same w/ Antec Tri-Cools. I'm just hoping for that or to replace or supplement the fan on low somehow. Using 4-5 slots for the HR-03 involves compromises of its own, although some here like falcon have pulled it off rather elegantly.
It will be at least 2 weeks before I install it.

Here are the temp:
8800 GTX stock cooler fan running automatic mode:
idle 65C load 80C
With VF1000 fan running at 100% idle 55C load 65C
fan @ 75%; idle 57C load 66C
fan @ 75% combining Vantec Fancard @lowest idle 52C; load 59C -- This combining increased a little bit of noise. Vantec fancard: http://www.vantecusa.com/p_fancard.html
Having high air flow onto the VF1000 heatsink fins doesn't seem to have any affect on the 8800GTX temp. However, having high air flow on the case exhaust fan does lower 8800GTX temp to some extent.
Yes the fan on the VF1000 is quiet even at 100%.

nzone: are these still your system specs?
Another positive report on VF 1000 found here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php ... 1031421131
How are you controlling the VF 1000 fan?My pc specs:
CPU: Q6600 @ stock frequency with 1.815v using Intel SpeedStep.
Cooler: Ultra ChillTEC with using SilenX 92mm fan
MB: eVGA 680i SLI A1
RAM: Patriot 6400LLK running in EPP mode at 1200Mhz with 2.0V
PSU: Corsair HX620W
GPU: 8800GTX
HD: 2x160GB in raid 0 (both WD); 1x80GB IBM/Hitachi
OD: Memorex DVD-ROM
Case: Zalman Z-Machine GT-1000
FANS: 1x120mm rear (Antec Tri-Cool @low), 2x92mm front (Zalman @ 5v) 1x92mm cpu cooler (SilenX), 1x120mm built-in psu fan. 1x40mm fan on the chipset running at 50%.
Thermal Performance:
idle: cpu=25C; gpu=67C; MB=33C
load: cpu=35C; gpu=75-80C; MB=35C

christopher3393,
It used to be, yes. I did a minor reconfigured since then. You can control the VF1000 with the included FAN MATE2. Instead, I plugged the VF1000 fan to the motherboard chassis connector. With eVGA 680i SLI A1, the chassis 1 fan header can be adjusted with range from 0% to 100% from the BIOS.
My system now:
CPU: Q6600 @ stock frequency with 1.1815v using Intel SpeedStep.
Cooler: Zalman 9700 NT
MB: eVGA 680i SLI A1
RAM: Patriot 6400LLK running in EPP mode at 1200Mhz with 2.0V
PSU: Corsair HX620W
GPU: 8800GTX w/Zalman VF1000/RHS88
HD: 2x160GB in raid 0 (both Seagate); 1x80GB IBM/Hitachi
OD: Memorex DVD-ROM
Case: Zalman Z-Machine GT-1000-Black
FANS: 1x120mm rear (Zalman), 2x92mm front (Zalman) all controlled by Zalman ZM-MFC2 fan controller. 1x120mm built-in psu fan. 1x50mm fan on the chipset is controlled by Zalman FAN MATE2 at the lowest.

Thanks nzone.
Further along in the hardforum thread linked above, armyoffoo is claiming 46C idle on an 8800GTX with a Yate Loon D12SL-12 zip-tied to a VF1000. Pics included but no load temps reported yet. Now it's a 3-slot solution, if this can be verified and duplicated by other users. My own progress is slow. I'm considering trying a couple of these fans on the VF1000: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835186021

What he/she said is possible. I zip-tied 2 80mm Antec Tri-Cool LED fans to the VF1000. @low idle 54C; @med idle 53C; @high idle 49C. I did not do the load test. It is more like a little cross over to the 4th slot when using a 25mm thick fan.christopher3393 wrote:Thanks nzone.
