It's ridiculous how many threads there are on this in the first 10 topics in this forum.

Wouldn't HD2400 pro / XT fit perfectly for Media PC if you're not doing gaming. Its budget card but rather good choice for media center and most versions are passively cooled.

The 2400 series is somewhat crippled. You'd be much better off going with a passively cooled 2600XT. Still well under £100.

True, but considering if you don't game, then wether its crippled or not doesn't really shown in media use. Considering HD2400-series is only half what 2600XT is.

But if I would choose card, I probably would take HD2600XT passive aswell.

I actually meant crippled from a media use standpoint. There are a couple of registry keys that get set that severly downgrade the 2400 performance. They may be fixed in later driver releases, but who knows. For example, IIRC, there isn't MPEG2 hardware acceleration for the 2400 due to a lack of registry key.

And I think I remember seeing users complaining about it downgrading its hardware deinterlacing from vector adaptive to a much less computationally intensive method under certain circumstances.

As for where you can find a passively cooled one, just hit up your favorite retailer. NewEgg had one until they sold out -- but they're a US site anyways.
