Thermal pads for Geforce 8800 GTS

They make noise, too.

Thermal pads for Geforce 8800 GTS

Post by Atmosper » Mon Nov 26, 2007 2:49 am

Hi!
I installed a zalman waterblock on my Geforce 8800 GTS some time ago. Now I want to sell the card but I want to sell it with the air-cooling instead. I threw away the original thermal pads for the ram chips so I need to find a replacement for those.

Does anyone know where to find such thermal pads? They're a little thicker than usual so the regular thin tape doesn't do it.

Atmosper, you could try:

http://se.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse ... ller+sheet

The sheets of "gap filler sheets" aren't particularly cheap, especially in thicker sizes - not sure what thickness you'd need, although they are semi-squishy.

nd4spdbh, you could try that site too - Farnell have sites for most countries. Just do a search for "gap filler sheet" on whichever homepage corresponds to your country =).

If you take some of the thin thermal pads (such as the ones that come with Zalman ramsinks) and roll them up into a ball that makes a pad thick enough to get some contact between the memory and stock cooler.

It won't cover the entire memory chip but will give you some thermal contact. :)

I thought the DDR3 on the video card didn't actually need to be cooled?? Maybe you could get by w/o pads at all.

well today i took apart my 8800 and did some measuring, the gap between the ram and hs varied between .75 - .70mm

so while i was buying from the arctic cooling rma on ebay i decided just to get a buncha pads

20 1mm pads
20 1.4mm pads
8 .5mm pads

total it was only 11 bucks shipped! and suppossedly AC uses good 3M thermal pads!

Are these pads soft like the ones that comes on the 8800gt? The ones on the 8800gt are thick but soft so they get squashed out.

I ordered some 1 mm and 2.5 mm pads from the AC RMA on Ebay. They came yesterday and when I checked the manual of my GF8800GTS waterblock the pads that came with it was 16x16x1 mm. So I tried the 1 mm size and it seemed to fit good.

The shipping took about two weeks. Highly recommended.
