They make noise, too.

HD 3870's power consumption from X-bit labs!

Post by PHlip » Mon Dec 24, 2007 3:47 pm

They quietly posted power consumption of the Radeon HD 3870.

I guess the fully-featured review of HD 38X0 is on the horizon(Please before 2008).
The result is very apealing for me; Yes, they consume very little in 2D mode.
HD 3850 for this Boxing Day. Yeahhhhhhh!

Glad to see that. I'm just waiting for the Chrismas sales/shipping craze to calm down a bit before replacing my good old 7900GTX. The 3870 cooler is a bit cheaply built in comparison but with those figures I guess the low load noise level can't be a problem.

You probably have already but check the prices on 3850 and 3870 cards. Around here the 3850's (512MB) are only about 15% less expensive.

is it possible for nvidia to come up w/ a powerplay equivalent program?

i'd like to have low power consumption while i'm just surfing the net but i need performance while gaming...best of both worlds...hard to choose between ati and nvidia right now...

I think NVIDIA will sport powermizer features in its next generation gfx.
ATI took the power saving technology from its mobile segment, why not for NVIDIA?
Then, we will see power-frugal video cards even in high class.

i would be really amazed if nvidia has the ability to make a cool running card in their next series.

i'm surprised matija didn't post this first...regardless, really good news, I mean, I was already going to attempt passive cooling on the 3870, but those numbers are much more encouraging.

I've heard the 3850 with the lower clocks and lower voltages uses quite a bit less power. I'd like to see for sure, but that could be nice for a lot of the quiet-pc folk.
