Best, quietest AND smallest cooling for 8800GT?

They make noise, too.

Best, quietest AND smallest cooling for 8800GT?

Post by fbjon » Sat Mar 22, 2008 6:55 am

Hi everyone, first post.

I've been looking at the MSI 8800GT Zilent for an upgrade, as the review on the VF1000 looked good. The question is, is this the best cooling option for an 8800GT that fits in 2 slots? I'm excepting the Accelero S1 here, because it probably won't work as passive, and needs 3 slots with a fan.

Besides, I don't require absolute silence when gaming, only when working on other things, so it's most important that the VGA cooler can be quiet when idle.

And secondly, I looked at the fan swap thread for the other Zalman cooler, but has anyone performed something similar on the VF1000? I found a decent-looking silenX 80x15 fan at pcsilent.de that looks like a good fit, it comes in 1600 and 1800 rpm versions.

Current rig is:
X2 4400+ brisbane with stock cooler, to be upgraded to 5400+ brisbane and some better HSF
MSI 7600GT with passive cooler
A few token case fans, to be upgraded to Nexus equivalents.

8800 Gt can be ran passively with Accelero.

Wow, really? Wouldn't that be heavily dependent on how good the case airflow is? Mine isn't all that spectacular, so I'd like to be sure.

Ah indeed, my only (lame) excuse is that finding the stuff in the forest of threads is difficult. My apologies...

So an S1 it is, it seems, thank you! :)
