GTX 260, cooling and power supply

Post by Nik7304 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 3:20 pm

Will the AC Accelero S1 or Twin Turbo fit the GTX 260? Read somewhere which hinted at it working. Anyone know for certain?

Also, does the Corsair VX450 or VX550 have second PCI-E 6-pin connector needed? Looking at Corsair page there's only one with the 450 and an additional 6+2 on the 550.

I'm sure if you completely re-did the mounting bracket for the base of the cooler, it shouldn't have much a of a problem cooling the core, provided you're running some sort of fan on it.

The problem you'll run into is cooling the VRMs. Many owners of the 4870/4850 cards have the same problems.

There are only 2 air coolers that I know of stated to work with the GTX 200 series cards. One is from SilenX, and the other is the Thermalright HR-03 GTX. Both of these units had trouble keeping the VRM temps in check, but there've been several people on XtremeSystems.org forums saying the HR-03 GTX works fine with their GTX 260s. Check it out for yourself.

Not sure if you can do this with the the GTX series cards, but with the HD4870, I've seen people take the aluminum plate off of the reference cooler, and keep it on the VRMs and VRAM, while an aftermarket cooler cools the core. It's worth looking into, or trying out for yourself. to see.

Updated with PSU requirement.

Looks like sticking with the stock cooler for now until AC gets a 260 solution on the market.
