About to give up trying to cool my 4850 with S1 rev 2

I have had similar although not as extreme problems with my HD3870, after removing the plastic base cover i noticed that the base of the S1 would not align properly with the GPU if i used the plastic supports, so i just skipped those, so far so good :)
btw, i dont have a fan mounted on the S1

Could be worth checking out
