Just finished building :D

Post by Memran » Wed Oct 26, 2005 12:45 pm

Just finished building my new PC!

Posting here while EQ2 is updating... (yawn)

My new spec:
Athlon 64 4000+
Thermalright SI-120, Akasa 120mm fan (<18db)
BFG 7800 GTX OC (only 1, SLi next month, maybe)
2Gb Geil CL2 Ram
Asus A8N Premium (no north bridge fan! yay!)
250Gb SATA II Spinpoint (quiet)
Antec P180 case (looks like a refridgerator, but I like it)
Seasonic S12 500W (quiet)

The 4-pin ATX 12v cable is only just long enough to reach. Had to route it over the graphics card... going to get an extension as I'm concerned about over tensioning PSU cables.

VGA doesn't seem to do anything at all, so I have removed it for move convenient access.

Whole thing running fast and very quiet!

CPU temps 37C idle, 45C load
GPU 50 idle, not seen it above 60 yet but only benchmarked without looping so far

I'm chuffed :D

After some gaming on EQ2 and HL2, GPU reached 72C. Thats not too bad is it?

Stock cards and stock cooling results in load temps up to 80°C. So that is indeed a good result. I'm not comfortable with those temps and certainly not that noise, so I'm putting a Zalman VF700 on my XFX 7800 GTX.

Are these tri-cool fans considered to be quiet?

I think its time to replace them. Any suggestions on replacements which are available easily in UK?

Do you have all the Tri-Cools on the 'low' setting? On 'low' there's not that many fans out there that are quieter. Nexus, undervolted Yate Loon, or undervolted Papst are the only ones that come to mind.

All set to low.
It definately the quietest PC I have used, but I don't want to hear it at all! :(

Check out the fans at QuietPC.com, I've been very impressed with the clear ones, they seem better than my Tri-Cool.

You're going to have a tough time going completely silent with a 7800 and a desktop hd. Can you really hear the Tri-Cool fan over the vid card fan and hd?

BTW, that's a nice, quiet rig there. Congrats.

Yea I hear fans.
The GPU cooler is surprisingly quiet, so is the spinpoint.

I can get a couple more ambers quickly, so will try those, as well as other suggestions.

Thanks :D
