New quad-core build for audio production/games

Post by henners » Wed Dec 19, 2007 12:52 pm

Hi,

I'm thinking of upgrading my pc for music production and maybe some games too:

Antec 3480 case
Intel Q6600
2gb PC6400 RAM
ABIT Fatal1ty F-I90HD mobo

What is a good fan/heatsink for the quad core processor that will be able to keep up under intense strain (audio apps) but not be loud so as to interfere when recording and also fit in the smallish case? Would the Mini Scythe be any good?

Any pointers appreciated ;)

Thanks

Why use a Ninja Mini when you can use a full-sized Ninja?

Also if you want to do some gaming, all integrated graphics are ridiculously insufficient, unless you're playing games from 5-6 years ago.

I didnt think the full one would fit inside the matx case. Would it?

ps I'll upgrade the graphics later when I feel I want to, I need it for music first and foremost.

Indeed it fits. I have a Ninja in my NSK3480. Motherboard is the Gigabyte G33M-DS2R. I'm not sure if there are differences in motherboard layouts though, if any of them have the CPU socket nearer to the top edge...

For further evidance, The Ninja definitely fits. I would also recommend you use a Ninja. Note that the link is a 3300.

As for you motherboard, If I were building a m-ATX system, I would use an Asus P5E-VM HDMI, which SPCR has reviewed. It seems like one of the best m-ATX boards available right now.
