System power consumption - will 120w be enough?

Post by igor123 » Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:28 am

Well I've bought most of the components for my HTPC build, except the case. Been searching for low profile case for two months now, without finding anything I'd like.

Now I'm rethinking Silverstone LC19, a nice case, but unfortunately it comes with 120W psu, which cannot be replaced. I'm little worried if this PSU is enough to run my setup?

- CPU Intel E8200
- Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H, mATX with integrated sound and graphics
- 2x1GB Corsair DDR2 (PC-6400)
- Hitachi 2.5" notebook drive
- Slim optical drive
- One or two small fans, usb receiver for remote, no keyboard, no mouse

I think 120W should be enough to handle this, but I'm not sure. I wouldn't want to buy the case and later find out it's no good :(

Also, what if I want to add internal TV tuner card to this setup - how much power would that card consume?

Regards.

Hello.

I ran:

E4500 (undervolted to 1,075V in BIOS)
Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R
2 GB RAM
2,5" HDD
HD2400XT

on a PICO-120.

It maxed out at 75W running Orthos and RTHDRIBL.

You should experience no problems at all.

A TV-tuner should add about 10W IIRC.

Yes. :) The beauty of a setup like this is 100% on-board. Basically a laptop-in-a-case. One fan at the rear should be enough as well - there's no real heat source to speak of except for the CPU and the power supply.

I'd actually get a Zen400 or Pico 120 or similar passive supply myself, but a 120W no-name *should* work. The TV tuner card, otoh, can be a bit of a drain unless it's input only(reception and not A/V in/out like an All-in-wonder).
