No DIMM in slot 1, will it boot?

Post by Emyr » Thu Jul 10, 2008 12:17 am

Just bought parts for a new computer for my brother from ebuyer.co.uk:

P182 gunmetal
Corsair 450W PSU (aka S12)
MSI K9n neo V3 motherboard
AMD 64 X2 3000+
Ninja RevB
2 x 1GB Ballistix DDR2-800
Samsung Spinpoint HD501 SATA
Sapphire HD3870

When I looked at it before buying, I made sure the Ninja wouldn't overhang the board and thereby not fit in the P182. My problem is now that there's no way a DIMM will fit in the nearest slot to the CPU because of the Ninja.

Anyone got this board and fancy trying to boot it with an empty first slot?

Should have a fair chance of working but you could always check if the manual says anything about whether the first slot has to be occupied.

Shouldn't matter...the only thing it can affect is dual channel mode, but as long as your able to access the other two DIMM slots, you'll be fine.
