would a phantom work?

Post by capleton » Mon May 02, 2005 6:54 am

I posted a little while ago, here is what I was going to order in a couple days:

Antec Solution SLK3000-B Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 Processor
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory Model VS1GBKIT400
THERMALRIGHT XP-90 Heatsink
ZALMAN ZM-NB47J Aluminium NorthBridge Chipset Cooler
2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823AS 250GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive (NCQ) in RAID 1 (for paranoia)
ASUS Radeon X300SE 128MB DDR PCI-Express x16 Video Card
nexus 92mm fan (to go with the xp-90)
SEASONIC S12-380 ATX12V 330W Power Supply

Im having some last-minute thoughts though, im wondering if the phantom would maybe work instead of the s12. This has been brought about primarily because Newegg no longer carries the s12, and plus the phantom would have a pci-express connector for future upgrades i may do. would it work with just the one stock fan that comes with the 3000b, or maybe should i put another fan in front or something? would it work at all?

i just thought that maybe it would be quieter with the silent psu... as long as i can run it with one fan though (two with the HSF). maybe i could add another nexus 120 to the front. does anybody have any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Hi Capleton-

Should be fine. Your system is not that dissimilar from mine (actually probably a lower power draw).

Do some searching in these forums for phantom comments... there have been a ton. Some (like me) are very happy with their Phantoms, and there are some who've had issues.

cheers-
B

I am running a system similar to yours but with a beefier GPU, and the Phantom is working fine for me. You may be able to get away with that single 120mm exhaust fan, especially if you are not overclocking.
