Screen power consumption

Post by oakdad » Wed May 11, 2005 11:07 am

I was wondering if anyone has done a comparison of the power consumption of say an 19"CRT screen compared to a 19"LCD to help me justify the ~$400 to get one.

Well this might not help you much but my 17" Samsung CRT draws 80w, where as my 15" Samsung TFT draws 30w.
I believe the average for 19" screens is around 40w, at least it is for the LG's and Samsung's i've seen.
Your 19" monitor is likely to use between 90-120w.

Hope thats of some help.....

You should be able to get the specs on most manufacturer web sites.

Just checked the specs on my Viewsonic P90f CRT and it says < 135 watts when on green, and < 3 watts when on standby (yellow).

A Samsung 192T LCD uses 45 watts max according to their website.

However, you should check the exact specs of the model(s) you are considering.

Interesting Topic. Based on the cost of electricity where I live and the amount of time my CRT monitor is on active status, I would save about $10-15 a year with an LCD.

LCD's consume roughly 40% as much power as a comparable CRT.
