P180, air cooling, need advice

Post by LennyC » Tue Aug 02, 2005 2:28 pm

I want my system to be very quiet! Here are the upgrades I have planned. All of this will be in a P180.

Main Hardware Cooling Other
  • Vantec NXP-205-BK 3.5” Fan Controller
I plan on running the VGA cooler through my fan controller so that it's barely running. Then, when I start to play a game, I will use my fan controller to turn it up for better cooling when my video card needs it.

I plan on leaving the XP-120 fanless for the quietest setup possible. Which blowhole should I use on the P180 for this?

I just found out that the Thermalright XP-120 isn't compatible with my motherboard. Is the XP-90 an ok choice for fanless?

I also just realized that the Thermalright V-1 hasn't been released yet. What else could I get for similar performance?

FYI, the V-1 has either been released or is about to be released:

"In this weekend. :-) You could order from one of Thermalright product
resellers like www.jab-tech.com.

Thermalright"

Not quite sure what "in this weekend" means :?

I would seriously consider changing your heatsink. In the P180, I don't know if you will be able to run an XP-120 fanless, much less the XP-90. I would consider getting the Ninja for the P180, as it is really well paired with the P180.

As for the VGA cooler, I currently have the VF700Cu and I love it.

Ya I saw that, but I need to know if it'll fit my card before I buy it :(

Sorry, I don't know, either. I've emailed them regarding compatibility/useability w/ a 7800GTX. I just sent a "reminder" w/ an x800 Pro follow-up question, though.

Hehe, I already ordered one. I just figured it would be compatible because their thing says X800 XL. I figured the pro would be the same. We'll see :/
