Is ASRock939 Dual ok for this system?

Post by zordex » Fri May 05, 2006 1:27 pm

Hi,

I will finally be getting a new system next week:
- Antec P150
- AMD 3800 X2
- Ninja (will try and run passive)
- WD320 GB

:?: Question: Is is the ASRock939 Dual a good choice for the above?
I have a silenced/passive AGP ATI 9600 Pro with which I could save some cash.

Stability is my main priority (no crashes). Ninja also has to fit. I play very few games (if any) and will not overclock.

:?: Another question, what RAM would I get for this board (2GB) ?

Thank you!

Hi,

I have this asrock now for about two months.
I'm pretty satisfied with it. It runs stable.
A few minor points :
It only has one case fan connector, so you will
only be able to rpm monitor your cpu fan and
one case fan.
Undervolting doesn't seem to do anything to the
cpu temp. Strange but it doesn't.
The cpu socket is closer to the front than other mobo's, so mounting
bigger cpu coolers with a fan is a bit harder as you don't
have much space left for your cables. Proper cable management
is the answer.
See one of my other posts for pics of the asrock with a freezer64 pro.
On my other system I have a ninja scythe, it really needs a fan,
undervolt a nexus and you wont hear it. The low airflow is enough
for cooling your cpu to a descent temp. 45°C at full load.
Without a fan the full load temp goes to 60°C, a bit high for me.
Without fan the motherboard temp will also be to high.
You need also the airflow from the fan on the cpu to the exhaust fan
to get rid of the hot air from your passive cooled grafic card.
You need to place the fan on the scythe high enough or it will touch
your RAM sticks.

If you're not going to OC too much you'll be okay; it's a nice stable trouble free mobo. If you are thinking about OCing I would suggest a different mobo with more vcore or a DC Opteron.
