I built a pc for my brother with a Athlon64 3200+ (@2.39GHz), a 7800GT (@512/1170 MHz) and 2GB of Kingston valueram, and apparently it plays BF2 at maximum settings fine.
It'll probably work fine at stock speeds too.

Edit: max eye candy at 1280x1024, that is (which is what I supposed you meant)

Sadly, after I've started to work ( ) I've not had time to play video games. Also considering I'm cheap, I only play(ed) the bf2 demo which I can run settings easily on full with all eye candy. System specs:

2gb ram
opty 165 dual core 2.6 ghz
7900 gt o/ced 535/1660

x1900 allinwonder

x1900 series will give you the best detail and no jaggies ever on bf2. their antialiasing and AF if put on intelligent, is the clearest crap you ever seen.

7900GT is also a great option if you like nvidia.

Remember, these cards did not exist when the game came out, so they are beyond spec.

I play with all on HIGH settings in 64 person games with no lag. I play at 1152 x 854. I like this setting on my 22 inch mitsubishi diamond pro. I could go more resolution i guess, but the AF and AA on so high it really is very little difference for holding the most stable framerates when the server lags. lots of lag is from the other people in the game so you dont want to ever contribute to that number.

4200 Dual core
Asrock dualsataII mobo - excellent, naturally passive and very fast/cheap board.
2 gigs of 1 gig sticks of patriot's best gig ram. timings: 2.5 3 2 5 at 1T command rate. It could run 2 3 2 5 but windows kinda blacks out here and their with that setting for some reason.

160 GB spinpoint 80 Samsung drive
350 Antec Phantom PSU

I see it all. IF you want extra extra framerates, get a x1900 XT. the XTX is very difficult to cool quietly. mine is the easiest to cool.

a 512 meg gfx card is also favorable for new games. BF2 is not a new game.
