After hours of deliberation........I came up with this
Thermaltake Eclipse DV Black W/Window
Hiper Type-R 580W
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe, AM2, PCI-E, DDR2,SATA2,GBLan,1394,ATX Wi-Fi Edition
Amd Athlon 64 X2 AM2 Dual-core Processor 4400+ 2.2 Ghz
250 Gb Seagate ST3250824AS Barracuda 7200.9, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.0 ms, NCQ
Thermaltake Mini Typhoon
Sapphire Technology Radeon X1300 512MB PCI-E DVI-I VO
Corsair XMS2-6400 C5 TwinX PC2-6400 2GB #17285
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum
Hyundai 19" Widescreen Black 8ms TFT Monitor
Lite-On SHW-16H5S 16X DVD±RW DL LightScribe Black (£28.84)
I have a few questions on these products:
1. Is the AMD X2 AM2 4400+ 2.2Ghz combined, or is that each core to combine at 4.4Ghz like the title suggests?
2. Is it worth extra for 16Mb of Cache?
3. I believe that the Mini Typhoon is AM2 compatible - is that true?
I am buying the X1300 graphics card cheaply now, and when DX10 comes out (god help us) I will upgrade then!!
Replies always gratefully appreciated!
George

No offense, but have you looked at the recommended cases, heatsinks, and power supplies on this site?
Here's a link:
http://www.silentpcreview.com/section5.html
Also, you might want to consider what your ulitmate goal is in building this computer. Do you want a gaming machine with bleeding edge performance? Do you want a more economical solution that will last about 3-4 years? Do you plan on upgrading in two years or so?
If I were you, I'd at least reconsider the case, CPU heatsink, and the optical drives.

1. The AMD 64 X2 is a dual core processor, meaning it behaves like two processors, each clocked at 2.2 GHz. Which means that if you're only processing a single thread, it's no faster than a 2.2 GHz single core AMD 64. The advantage is if you have multiple applications running, the dual core can run them as if you have two, 2.2 GHz processors.
2. Yes, if the price difference is small. More cache will be faster, and possibly quieter?
3. I don't know this one.
4. I know you didn't have a #4, but your psu sounds like way too much power and noise for this system. Maybe a Seasonic 430 watt unit instead?
Otherwise, sounds like a good system. Best of luck!

Basically, I have already aquired the PSU off a friend for a very low price(super silent), I adore the case(!) and have just bought these:
Asus M2N32-SLI Del/WIFI-AP AM2 Sound 2 x GigaLan 1394 USB 2.0 WIFI-G ESATA ATX
Sapphire Radeon X1300 256mb 128bit DDR2 PCI-E VGA/DVI/TV-out
Kingston Value Ram 1GB 533MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL4 DIMM
Seagate 80GB Barracuda 7200.9 Sata II 7200rpm 8MB Cache
I have purchased this g/c because I am waiting for DX10, and it would be a waste of money if I am going to upgrade in 6 months!
Can you help me out on a Sound Card (X-Fi Platinum?), a TV Card (The XFX one?) and an AM2 CPU cooler. I believe that the Scythe Mine fits AM2, but I would like reassurance!!!
Thanks, Gharkins

Scythe Mine is compatible with AM2.
I would go for seasonic, but it's to late to say.
Don't go for seagate but for Samsung or Western Digital.
The shop I buy my major components, has this message on
it's site.
2006-07-01: AMD meld dat volgende modellen cpu's met AM2 socket uit productie genomen worden: AMD Athlon 4000+ 64bit X2, AMD Athlon 4400+ 64bit X2 en AMD 5000+ 64bit X2.
Meaning that the above socket AM2 cpu's are taken out of production by AMD.
I wonder why?
