Fanless cooler for core 2 duo e6300 in Antec NSK1300

Post by rolanddreier » Tue Sep 05, 2006 9:31 am

Hi all, I'm planning on building a system with a Core 2 Duo E6300 in an Antec NSK1300 case. Everything I've read indicates that the E6300 runs very cool, well below the 65W TDP, and so I think I should be able to run my system with just the case fan and a fanless CPU cooler.

However, I'm not sure what CPU cooler will both work fanless and fit in the NSK1300 -- it seems there is only about 65mm of space below the power supply for the CPU cooler. Something like the Zalman CNPS6000 seems like it should work, but I don't think that cooler works with LGA775.

Anyone have any advice on low-profile passive CPU coolers?

Thanks!

Scythe Ninja will do fine if you can get that beast inside of the case.

I doubt the Ninja will fit. A Zalman 7000B-AlCu should work, depending on the motherboard. If undervolted, its fairly quiet. You could just not plug in the fan and see how it works.

Yeah, all the Scythe coolers look way taller than 65mm.

A Zalman 7000 will fit, but I don't know about running it fanless. The fan is a big part of the total cooler, so I'd rather get something with a little more metal fins.

This case appears to be close to the same size as a silverstone sg01. I managed to squeze a Thermalright XP-120 into the sg01, but there was
absolutely no room left for a fan. So if fanless turns out not to work, you
might end up sol.
