Trying to install Vista Premium - Am I OK?

Post by aristide1 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 5:25 pm

I've lost count of how many times I have rebooted. I get to the screen that says Upgrade or Install? Upgrade is not an option so I install, and then it says it may to reboot or move files to an OLD folder. I see it extracting files then it reboots and asks the same questions, including the key and accepting the terms.

Am I stuck or is this normal?

I have only ever "clean installed" Vista.

It was flawless both times.

What version do you have, and is it OEM or upgrade or, retail.????

I have done a clean install with an OEM version on new equipment.

It finally "installed" but it's been "shutting down" now for over 30 minutes. :?

HELP - This thing is latched up tight.

I inadvertently did a restore function when I was trying to figure out how to install the drivers. It rebooted and asked me for the key. Then it said the trial period expired, when it actually has 29 days to go. I can get in now and I need to install the friggin' NIC drivers. DUH, what do I do now?

I can't register because I haven't installed the drivers and I can't install the drivers because I haven't registered.

The following steps should ease the frustration.

1) Take Vista disc out of computer and place in launcher
2) Load shotgun and trigger launcher
3) Blast Vista disc into many tiny pieces
4) Load *nix disc into computer and install
5) Enjoy!

:P  :D

Is there not an option to format the HDD when you're selecting where to install? If so, then select the disc you want, tell it to format, and then exit the installation. Restart, booting from the CD, and install as usual. For some reason, Vista doesn't complete formatting the drive until you restart (happens with the Beta as well).

Or, you could put in another OS disc, say XP or whatever, and format the HDD into NTFS or something. Then quit the install, and restart with Vista for a clean install.

Hope this helps

I hesitate to put the DVD back into the drive when I already have a version that is essentially screaming "I am illegal!"

I'll start with the path of least problematicability(this is how people talk after 6 years of Bushisms). I'll try to register over the phone. I just wish the phone call would cost MS more than the damn software.
