System set up and PSU questions

Post by sap » Tue Jul 24, 2007 12:20 am

for the htpc that i want to build i ahve come up with a list of components, i wanted to know if a 120w picopsu would be enough to handle this.

the parts i'm thinking of so far are

Albatron Ki-690
AM2 x2 4000+
laptop Slimline Dvd-rw
2gig SO-Dimm ram
160g laptop Drive
and tv tuner card.

i might have thigns connected to usb from time to time, Would the 120w picopsu be enough to handle this or should i go for the PW-200-M which is 200w. Let me know what you think of those parts, of if you got any suggestions about something that would perform better letter me know please.

i can see it working just fine with 120W, however under load, if it jumps above that, then you may experience problems.

so just playing movies or watching tv should be fine. Would playing emualted games send over the load? or ripping movies from dvd?

You will never exceed the power rating of the pico psu without a dedicated 3d graphics card with that processor. Your load power requirements will likely be around 80watts.

Hi sap, how did you get on with the KI690 S-1?

Wondering about getting this board and use a low power Sempron, but how does the efficiency of the 690 chipset compare to the new Atom and Via offerings...

I think the 120w PicoPSU will work just fine. That CPU and everything else is so low power.
