TV Tuner help for a HTPC build...

Post by laguz1 » Wed Sep 26, 2007 6:23 pm

ok...so i have a current list of parts here:

cpu: intel core 2 duo e6750
mobo: gigabyte G33M-DS2R (microATX)
ram: crucial ballistix 2 gb (2x1024 cas 4)
hd: samsung spinpoint T 500 gb
vid: evga 8600GT
sound: HT omega claro
case: antec nsk2400
psu: seasonic s12 430w
optical: (my old lite-on dvd-rw)
fans: yate loon D12SL-12s
fan controller: zalman MFC-1 plus silver
cpu cooler: scythe ninja mini (passive)
gpu cooler: zalman vf-900
nb cooler: noctua NC-U6

now....all i need is a good HDTV tuner...

i was thinking between a VistaView Saber2020 or an ATI wonder one...but does anyone else have a good suggestion? anyone know how the saber2020 is?

It will have to be PCI express x1 (or USB/external i guess...) since the 8600GT will have a zalman vf-900, then the sound card takes up the other PCI...

thanks for your help!

laguz1,

We would like to suggest another option in your list for evaluation. The Avermedia AverTV Combo PCIe. It has dual tuners (one standard, one HDTV), PCIe x1, low profile and works very well with the Windows Media Center. We use one of those with an 8600GTS and the image quality is very good.
There are two versions: with or without remote control. See below the Newegg links for price and customer reviews.

b) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815100015

Best Regards,

Marcos

Cheaper Aver:

Hauppauge:

I have both, the Hauppauge gets better OTA reception.
