P182 Lower Chamber Question

Post by JohnFL » Fri Nov 30, 2007 9:08 pm

Hi Guys,

In a P180 case that i have, i put a fan infront of the lower hd housing. To do this, i had to butcher the area infront of the lower hd housing, and i never really liked the way the fan fit in there ( a little too tight ).

So now i am building a new system, and have ordered a P182. Again, i want to put a fan infront of the lower hd housing, but this time i would like to do it so it looks nicer.

I remember that someone once told me, that they moved the lower hd housing, rearward, just a little bit, so that the fan would then fit in there better. In trying to do a search on SPCR, i am coming up with nothing. Does anyone remember seeing a post for doing that?

Here it is - I used P180+front+fan+lower+chamber as search criteria, and it was about half way down the first page of results... ;)

Why do you need the intake there? Just because of messy cables in the middle?

Having it halfway saves a bit of possible noise (it being further away and all).

seraphyn.........

I have run it that way on my old P180, for a couple of years now. I want my hard drives ( 3 of them in the lower unit ), to be as cool as they possibly can be. That is more important to me, than the little noise that might get through the front filter and the door.

nick705........

Thank you for the forward to that other page... I'm not sure that was the exact one that i saw before, but it basicly does the same thing.

By the way, i think i have seen posts that your running the Abit IP35 Pro. Are you still pleased with it? I just ordered mine yesterday, along with all the other associated parts, and should get them the end of next week. I ordered the Thermaltake 120 Extreme.... maybe a little over kill for the E6600, but i want the CPU to be as cool as possible. If i do over clock the E6600, it probably wont be very much. Maybe close to 3ghz, but i'm not going to try to push it all the way. I've been told that the E6600 should be plenty fast for the multi tasking, and video editing that i want to do.
