USB3 ports on front of case

Post by dhanson865 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 4:17 pm

Say I have a Antec Solo from 2 years ago or an even older antec case like the SX-835II and I want to have USB3 ports on the front of the case.

1a. Does anybody make a 5.25" bay device or 3.5" bay device that has USB3 ports yet?

1b. assuming none exists what is the cheapest device I can put in a bay that will give me additional USB 2 connectors?

2. Does anybody make a case that has USB 3 front ports yet? In a case that I'd be willing to replace a Solo with? (fwiw, I'm willing to go P18x if they do a USB3 version)

If we are going for category 1 it needs to be cheap as I'm assuming I'll buy a new case when the answer to 2 is yes.

I'll be testing/reviewing one in about two weeks when it arrives, along with a True Power 750W unit that arrived today (which I need to bugger them about).

Other than the LanBoy Air, I think the new Dark Fleet series also has it.

Other than those cases, I don't know any with USB3 support on the front, and I wouldn't call those Antec cases cheap, or really good for everyone, they do kind of cater to a very specific market.

Lian Li front drive bay.
Or this case; several of their new cases also offer this functionality.

wow the Lian-li BZ-U07 or BZ-U03 would be great too bad they are in the $75 range. That strongly pushes me towards buying a new case instead.

Scythe Kama Cabinet Pro is USB 2 for about $15 and has a nifty hidden storage feature.

Bitfenix USB 3.0 Front Panel - 70721 is about $25 and has four USB 3 ports.

As soon as I get a MB that has USB 3 I'll probably get a USB3 front panel.

anybody know of a cheaper front panel for USB 2 or USB 3?

I'm looking myself as I have USB 3 headers on the board.
I did try an Akasa card reader with a USB 3 port but it was faulty and didn't work properly (card reader)
Slow as hell too for transfer speeds on cards.

Replaced that with an Apacer card reader (much better the Akasa was junk IMO) no USB 3 though

I'm looking for a 5.25" USB port myself the Lain Li is just a silly price I'm sure some will arrive via ebay soon though.
