Suggestions to replace ASUS N4L-VM DH + Intel C2D T7200 ?

Suggestions to replace ASUS N4L-VM DH + Intel C2D T7200 ?
The ASUS N4L-VM has disappeared off the main supplier web sites in the UK (Insight, Scan, etc). Scan thinks it's gone end of life.
My current cluster test node is an N4L + T7200:
Core 2 Duo T7200 SL9SF (B2) 2GHz TDP:34 W Socket M
and the node consumes around 45W both cores loaded, 2GB ram, no hard drive, which fits nicely with the 34W TDP listed above.
Maybe this is a chance to try another combo. I need the Core 2 Duo mobile performance, both in terms of low power consumption and processing speed.
There are a few lower power Core 2 Duos:
Core 2 Duo LV L7400 SL9SM (B2) 1.5GHz TDP:17 W FCPGA6
Core 2 Duo LV L7500 SLA3R (E1) 1.6GHz TDP:17 W Socket P
Bit slower but well worth the power trade off for our application. Availability of these processors seems non-existant as well as motherboards to put them in!
_Any_ suggestions would be gratefully received...either a drop-in replacement motherboard for the N4L, or a new cpu/motherboard combo entirely.

The AOpen i945GTm-VHL is easily available in the U.S. for less than $120 USD. I have three of them, two of which I run pretty much all day without problems (just got the 3rd yesterday). They use the standard S478 mounting bracket and have DVI output which, for me, makes them superior to the ASUS board.

Have you ever compared power consumption of the two boards? I am curious whether the Aopen using SODIMMs reduces power consumption any significant amount.buzzlightyear wrote:I have two 479 socket mobos

As far as I know, there's no chance to use these cpu (as a DIYer), as they come both in µFCBGA6 package (even if Radisys and Kontron currently sell FCBGA "prepared" motherboards). According to some sources, there would be at least two new 800mHz FSB low voltage Core 2 Duo mobile cpu which seem to have the more "standard" µFCPGA6 package. Availability it's probably more than an issue, even also for a socket M mobo with that 800mHz FSB (but if you'd find any news, I'll be glad to know them).
Current alternatives to your 945 mobo are be already pointed out to you: among them, the two Fuzzy (mITX) and the two Speedster (µATX) from MSI, the GA-8I945GMMFY-RH from Gigabyte, the known i945GTm-i945GMm (µATX), i945GTt-i945GMt (mITX) and i975Xa-YDG (ATX) from AOpen.

No I have not done any power consumption test. In fact both rigs are running open air, waiting for a home/case.
