Asus M3N78 does not POST

Post by oberbimbo » Wed Mar 12, 2008 10:06 am

So I went and bought my HTPC components. An Asus M3N78-EMH, Athlon BE 2400, KVR800D2N5 1GB Kingston RAM.

Hooked it up to a Seasonic S12 and while the fans spin up and the leds glow, the board does not output anything on either VGA or DVI and not even do any POST beeps... :(

Anything I can do? (no I do not have any fitting RAM or another AM2 CPU)

I had exactly this problem on my Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H with an Antec NeoHE 430W. I was probably experiencing the power on problem that this PSU got infamous for. Anyway, I switched to a Corsair HX520W and the problem went away. The Seasonic S12 you have shouldn't have those problems but I'd still try another PSU just to be sure.

I've also had almost the same trouble with incompatible RAM. Do you have another stick to try?

You're my hero. I hooked it up on my Etasis FAnless instead of the Seasonic S12 330 II. Posts like it should.

Cool! 8)

It's interesting and unfortunate that it wouldn't start with the S12, but I'm glad you found the problem.

It's late and I only read parts of it, but it is somewhat surprising that it would power an Epia 6000 just fine... Or maybe Asus had initial power draw that low that it really went way below that.

I was troubleshooting a friend's ashrock p4mv478 and it too refused to start on my seasonic s12 380 as well as on his 500w fsp. We were thinking the board was dead until it finally worked with an older, generic psu. It seems the low load start problem can persist even on units that supposedly have addressed it.

I have emailed Seasonic several days ago, so far, no reply.

Shop offered me an RMA but I'm not sure it is really useful?
