Asus s775 boards: Cant make speedstep undervolt at idle

Post by farns » Sat Feb 05, 2011 5:08 pm

Hi there, I have a P5Q-E (very similar to P5Q Pro), does anyone know how in BIOS to make it undervolt when idle (speedstep/CIE/EIST etc) when the FSB is raised ? The multiplier drops but the voltage does not.
Which option do I select in BIOS? AUTO voltage seems to raise Vcore as FSB is raised, and selecting a specific voltage doesnt work either.
Can I raise the FSB and still have it undervolt at idle at stock CPU voltage?

Gigabyte boards can do this overclocked at stock voltage (by selecting "Normal" voltage) but I cant make Asus boards do this as a P5KSE was no go either.

If I remembered correctly, there should be an "Offset Voltage" option in CPU voltage adjustment where you could overvolt/overclock during load and undervolt/underclock at idle through EIST.

Thanks for help, there is no "offset" in BIOS, here are the relevant screens

I will change the NB voltage later but I want to have everything at default first until I can sort this out

The bottom option in AI tweaker is "CPU Margin Enhancement" , default is Optimal

From my experience, ASUS usually had an option called "offset" in CPU Voltage. Through "offset," I could adjust frequency/voltage without losing EIST's advantages like lower frequency/voltage/power consumption. Btw, try to update the board with latest bios which may also address overclocking/overvolting & EIST issue.

Just my two cents.

Thanks, yes it has latest BIOS, Ill try an earlier one and see if "offset" features

As far as I can tell Asus mobos are a write off for a stock voltage overclocking low-power PC due to the lack of this feature.
