Ultra X-Connect 500W, free after rebate

Post by MikeK » Tue Feb 21, 2006 8:20 pm

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2179650

anybody see a reason not to get this? I'm not a fan of bling but who cares if it's free, it could be a free backup PSU. I skimmed a few reviews and I didn't see any red flags. Loudness I guess isn't really a factor if I use it for a backup, but anyone with any idea on the loudness of it please chime in.

Pros:
Free
Backup PSU

Cons:
uhhh wasteful (bad for environment etc to buy unneeded PSU, though they are made already I guess)

It is $80-70 on other sites. Kind of blows the mind.

It has two rebates and it looks like they are pretty much the same rebate. I wonder if it is a typo. I already have too many power supplies but it looks like a nice power supply and you could always do a fan swap. Kinda nice that it is modular.

1) Buy it before they correct the typo.
2) If necessary, argue about the price.
3) List on on ebay.
4) If bored, ask that they send you the one cent as well.
5) Profit

If you look at the rebates (pdfs), one is Radioshack, the other is Ultra. It looks legit. Ultra's requires original UPC, Radioshack's requires a copy of UPC.

lol, yeah I know, the $-.01 was amusing, they must pay me the one cent damnit!

Darn, it comes out to $6.25 - .01 = 6.24 if you include tax. Free shipping is nice though.

solid psu w/ 34a in 12v rail, but only a 20-pin power connector. Make sure you buy that adapter!

if you get this make sure you send everything they ask for and make copies of everything. I've heard too many rebate problems from friends who bought UltraX Connect from Fry's. They never got their rebates. I am not worried about RadioShack, it's Ultra that I would worry about.

Mine is on its way. Cost me $8.23 cause i had to pay tax in california. Who knows, maybe i'll keep it, maybe i'll sell it, maybe i'll mod it. It would look really funny with an orange nexus though.

How come you have to pay tax on something that costs 0?

You pay taxes before the mail-in rebate.

edit: "At this time, we are not able to send orders internationally." Figures.

even if they did, you would have gotten screwed, rebates clearly say US ONLY ;)

Thats a different power supply. Not as ugly as the other one. I am in trouble now cause i didn't print the rebate forms yet and now i can't find the link!

[edit] Hmm, I knowticed the rebate forms had the same look for all the rebates so i plugged in the search number from the link and did not get anything. I started to freak out because i'm not paying $100 for a crappy power supply so i checked my order at radioshack and they have no record of my order. Hmm, I can't check my webmail here at work. Anyone else have this problem? I'm tempted to drive home and check this out.

LOLOL, well my friend probably found it on slickdeals or some such so I'm guessing they sold out fast!

Well I ordered mine. Yeah that sucks about the rebates, good thing I downloaded them :) :)

here they are if you need them:
http://mkatich.hopto.org/SPCR/psurebate/

openwheel, yeah I was hesitant at first too. I've done rebate things before that were annoyingly difficult, you just have to be careful... like don't send off the original UPC without making a copy for the other rebate. I actually scanned it on my last one so I still have it.

openwheel - Do you have any details about your friends' situations?

autoboy - I got email confirmations from radioshack. Maybe you ordered it after they sold out or something.

MikeK, I was at work and they block my webmail for security reasons. I actually found my order...aparently i had not set up a user account and just needed the order confirmation. Thx for the link for the rebates. I ended up finding them here:

Also, i ordered this thing late at night so i wasn't totaly perceptive but I just realized this is a 2 fan power supply. gonna have to ebay it.

That's a bit mean. They should give you the rebate before you pay for it, then you would pay less, but the retailer would still get just as much.

It's probably the government that's objecting to this - after all they'd get less taxes that way.
