I have a dell 3R160 but would prefer this if it is atleast as good, as would save butchering the dell cable

What do you guys think? is all i need to complete my system now :D

You should make it clear that this is an ebay item number.

It does look appropriate -- and the ~US$24 price is hard to beat, tho I bet shipping outside UK or EU would be steep.

I am in the UK so shipping is very cheap ;) just wondering if it is as good as if not better than my dell which would need to be cut up and a new plug fitted

It depends. For me, the Dell DA-2 I picked up on e-bay for £20 is much better as it's 200W/18.5A whereas this is only 120W/10A, but then I need the extra juice.

Rather than cutting up the Dell lead, I made an ATX 20pin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44019) to DC power plug (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=43084) lead, which the DA-2 plug fits into.

SlaveToSilence, thank you for the tip. I bought the item from eBay and 24.56 euros (inc. shipping etc.) is a great price!

No fan, fits to plug of picopsu fine, no complains.

Yes I am and I just noticed a mild(ish) irregular high-pitched whine that comes out of the brick. The brick is on my desk at the moment ab. 20 cm away from me. Hope it does not get worse! Anyway, nothing to complain, at least for now.

does the 'irregular high-pitched whine' vary with the load on the system? (eg louder at load and quieter at idle)

Yes it does. Opening windows and scrolling mouse seem to cause it. Thus it is not irregular by the definition. Anyway, the noise is not loud or annoying as described by some people in all those "coil-whine of PSU posts" in SPCR.

with any luck it will be quietest at idle, when we're sleeping and when its most important to be quiet :)

Well, it is quiet as idle (I can hear from a distance of ab. 10 cm). As it is whining I can hear it if I am couple of meters away (faint noise). Not a big deal.

i will be using one for my build so if it's too loud (only other noise will be a 1200rpm slipstream) i will make a sound proofed wind tunnel (open ended rectangle) with either end facing away from the user, and maybe an undervolted 120mm fan blowing through if it gets too warm :D
