hi
looking for a cheap but Really quiet psu (htpc)
Pico kits seem not an option because I plan to use at least an i5-2500k; but on the other side definitely i won't need 500+ watts.
i live in italy, not everything is easy and cheap to find, this limit the choices
corsair vx and hx seem quite pricey and available only with high wattage
this seem to leave as options:
- Seasonic S12II - 380 or 430 (review for the 380 here on spcr)
- Silverstone ST40F-ES (strider essential, 400w)
- nexus value 430 and nx 5000 r3
can't find a decent review on the silverstone,
they just say it's "quiet" but rarely provide measures to quantify it...
on paper it seems that the nexus units are the more palatable, but what bugs me is that recently issues seem to have plagued quite a number of units for both the models:
what is mentioned in the "reccomended" page here on spcr (and in these forums!) for the 430, and very loud coil noise during normal operation for the 5000
this might be a real hassle for me since the nexus models are available only buying in less known shops which - in case of RMA - leave to me quite high shipment costs.
then: what do you suggest? i listen to the ht system from 1.8-2.5 meters far, but the speaker volume is frequently very low... i really need a "dead quiet" system, without the cost of a x-400....
thanks a lot for your advice!!
ps: I can find plenty of other brand and no-brand models, but rarely they seem to be in the "really quiet league" and under 530w and cheap; among them: rasturbo, enermax, ocz, zalman, antec, nesteq, ...

Generally speaking PSU quietness also depends by the enclosure of choice.
However, another alternative (for drawing under 200W): http://www.silentpcreview.com/article994-page6.html
