Recommendations please...

Post by sevilla_jjl » Sun Dec 07, 2003 8:29 pm

Hi guys. This is my first attempt at a quiet system. And I need specific recommendations, because I don't know if any of the recommended powersupplies have enough connectors or power for my planned system.

I'll be running a p4 on one of the abit ic7 flavors. 1 gig of ram. 4 5-1/4" devices, 4 hdds, 4 120mm fans.

In case it matters, I'm located in the U.S.

FOUR 120mm fans? egad.

welcome to spcr btw :)

seasonic super silencer 400 should work? do some math on each of the 3.3, 5 and 12v rails for all of ur devices and check it against seasonic's spec

Since you write in the power supply section I guess you want a recommendation for a PSU only.
With all the components you will put in that system you will push the +12V line quite hard on that system.
I recommend that you get a PSU from the
Recommended Power Supply Units
page here at SPCR.
You should pick one that can deliver 20A on the +12V line to be sure everything works correctly. You might do fine with a PSU that can take 18A on +12V, but that might be close call.

Yes, the recommended PSU section is right for you. On a hunch, you will be ok with any good 400W PSU. But if you want to be sure, calculate the load all your components put on each of the voltage rails and compare that to the spec of the PSU.
