Seasonic squeals with Radeon 9500 Pro!

Post by JavaLava » Fri Feb 27, 2004 7:44 pm

I've tried both the Super Silencer 400 and the Super Tornado 400 (both rev A2) in a system with an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro w/MagicGFX@7v and the loud high-pitched squeal from the PSUs is unbearable! Switched to a 9600 Pro and the noise disappeared.

I guess the Seasonics don't work well with the 9500 Pro, which is the same case as the Enermax Whisper series PSUs.

Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem...

Was that card made by ATI or another vendor? Not all vendors use the same quality components for the "same" ATI chipset card, and it would be nice to know which vendor had the problem with the 9500 Pro , and if it was the same vendor who made the 9600 Pro.

Strange. I had coil whine from my Enermax when I plugged it into a Radeon 9700Pro and an Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard. Replacing it with a Seasonic Tornado actually fixed it.

It is an original ATI retail box card. As for the 9600 Pro, it's a Tyan Tachyon fitted with the Zalman ZM80C-HP.

My Enermax had the same problem with a Tyan 9500 Pro, but I didn't have the Seasonics then and I don't have the Enermax now, so I don't know if the Tyan 9500 would cause the same problem with the Seasonics, or the ATI with the Enermax. I was actually quite surprise that the Seasonics have this issue, since I haven't noticed anyone complaining about them with Radeons before.
