I heard read so many posts about max power needs for different systems.
Now I am curious to know how much a typical system will consume in idle mode or when just browsing the web.
I have:
Athlon T-Bred @ 2,3 GHz
Radeon 9700 PRO
3 Hard drives and 1 optical drive
3 PCI cards.
2 80mm case fans.
anyone care to make a guess??

100W maybe in DC output. Tops.
With a Zalman 400B, my A64-3200 + ATI9800Pro + 1G mem + 1 HDD system draws 120W AC idling. That's maybe 80~85W DC output.
Max while folding @ home is ~160W AC. That's ~120W DC.
During PCMark04 benchmarking, the highest peak seen was 168W AC.
During 3DMArk2001, 188W AC max.

thanx for your reply.
I do not have access to a meter that can measure it.
If anyone could throw me some W numbers of idling AMD CPUs and ATI VPUs I will be happy....

Your basic home pc draws between 80 and 120 watts. A 17 inch crt monitor about the same. A LCD a fraction of that.
To find the accurate number for YOUR system, I highly recommend a kill-a-watt meter. You get em off ebay for about 25 bucks.
