I own a Antec Sonata pc case.
P4 2.8GHz prescott
Zalman 7000B-Cu.
People have written that you can hardly hear the PSU....
True/False ?

AFAIK the EG475AX-VE is the same as EG475P-VE but with active PFC added.
SPCR reviewed the EG475P-VE and put it on second place of the list of recommended PSU's (for units of 400W+).
The only thing more quiet you can get in that power range is a Seasonic Super Tornado, so yes that is a good choise.
The Enermax makes about the same amount of noise (21dB/A @1m for loads <200W) as your Zalman CPU cooler with the fanmate at its lowest setting (22dB/A @1m).

Thank you. Great reading..
I noticed this:
So I guess this would probebly mean that my case will draw to much power... and there by using OVER 250W, making the fans spinn, creating 32dBA AND louder noise
I noticed this:
Subjectively, the Enermax NoiseTaker 475 is very quiet from idle all the to 200W output: There was no change in noise from 65W load to 200W. But between 200W and 250W output, there is a major step in fan speed and noise, and hits 32dBA at 250W. All the noise levels at the 250W mark and beyond are too high to be of real interest to PC Silencers.

Doubt it, I have exact same PSU powering 3.0C/1Gb/6800GT/3HDDs that I upgraded recently from 2.4Celeron/512mb/ATI8500/3HDDa and I didn't notice increase in fan speed after upgrade. In fact the only time I've seen fans ramp up is when there was inadequate airflow in the case coupled with extensive gaming sessions. I think you'll be safe with your config.stighenning wrote:Thank you. Great reading..

S,
I have a noisetaker as well. It has never ramped up, but I suspect if it did it would be more noticeable. I can't imagine that after two minutes it would get hot enough to ramp up significantly. -FG

I've got the EG475P-VE noisetaker and I must say that I wasn't impressed with the noise - yes it is quiet but not silent. An 80mm and 92mm fan, even at their lowest setting, were just way too audible for me. So, I pulled both the fans out (bye bye warranty ) and then simply put a 80mm JaPanaflo at 5v in the back. Now it is virtually inaudible.
PD.

Built this a few months ago:
Case: Antec 3700B
Fans: Panaflo intake at bottom of case, 120mm exhaust nexus.
CPU: AMD 64 2800+ running fulltime at 1.225v
Cooled with Zalman 7xxx, 5v.
Replaced Northbridge fan with heatsink
2Gb RAM
ATI 9800Pro with artic silencer.
Ambient temperatures are pretty stable since it's winter, thermostat is on, and I almost never shut system off.
CPU temps hover around high 30s. However recently noticed Thermaltake 370w has been noisy. Perhaps I have a defective unit.
considering fan swaps, and if it does not help, fanless CPU.
EDIT::: I removed Thermaltake 370w and put in a fanless Antec Phantom. Noise was still there so I guess it's the zalman making all the noise! Geez!
Won't be satisfied till I can complain about transformer coil whine.
