Seasonic Tornado A2

Post by daniel_gustafsson » Sun Apr 03, 2005 12:50 am

I recently bought a Seasonic Tornado, and to my surprise and disappointment I got a rev A2. Though, I have been using it for close to a week now and have not experienced any problems.

Should I be worried and try to return it ?

Accordning to the motherboard the fan starts at around 850 rpm and then goes to 900-910 and stays there. Is that a normal speed for the fan ?

/Daniel

Hi daniel and Welcome to SPCR!

I have never used a Seasonic PSU, but I think you can keep it if you don't have any problems with it. We can't tell you what to think of it. If it works and fulfills your requirements with regards to performance and noise (or lack thereof) -- be happy!

I read that the A2 version was not good and could speed up to 1800rpm? Is that just for some of the shipped A2 versions ?

I also live in Uppsala.

Yes, not all of the Seasonic Rev. 2 (A2) are faulty, so if your Super Tornado is working like it should be then it means it's a good version :)

I had one of the dreaded A2 Seasonics that ramped up to 1800 rpm. However, it did this from day one. It was a very good power supply, otherwise.

If you have already had yours for a week and have had no problems with it, then you are probably OK. The only problem I can think of down the road is if you add a significant source of heat to your computer (hot CPU or graphics card, room temperature goes up a lot in summer, etc.). In that case, I could imagine the A2 ramping up and then staying there.

Jonas,

if you do decide to return the product you'd be glad to know that JME Data has Seasonic Tornado 300W that are Rev A3.

Might be a good idea to call and make sure though, in case they've run out or something.
