Will Seasonic 300W be enough for Sempron 3000+ socket 754 MB

Will Seasonic 300W be enough for Sempron 3000+ socket 754 MB

Post by skanan » Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:02 am

My system will have low end AGP video card probably Nvidea FX 5200 with AMD Sempron 3000+ in socket 754 motherboard. This CPU would consume power similar to Athlon 64 3000+ winchester core. I plan to have 2 GB RAM and only one IDE disk. I'm wondering if Seasonic 300W will be enough.

Thanks,
Nick

Yes, easily. If you haven't already, take a look at the typical power requirements section of the PSU basics article on the main site.

Oh, and Welcome to SPCR!!!!!

Hi Nick, and welcome to SPCR!

I'm sure you'll have no problem at all with a 300W PSU (especially a good quality one such as the Seasonic). You might find a perusal of this thread reassuring.

Definitely.

Just to make sure, how many amps are available on the +12V rail?

Thanks! everyone for the quick reply. I read most of the threads related to this. There are so much informations here. I'll post my system setup once I finish assembling it.

I have the same concern as KorruptioN about +12V connector on the motherboard. I just looked at Seasonic website for their 300W PS. It has 18Amp capacity for the +12V rail. That should be enough for Sempron.

I ended up getting Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939, Gigabyte motherboard, Samsung 160GB drive, 2GB memory and ATI 9200 Graphic card. The Seasonic Silencer does not have any problem with my setup. Even at lowest speed, it is quiet but not the level that I can't hear it. It is the loudest component in my system.

The stock AMD fan is quiet once used with Fan mate.

If you feel up to it, just swap the fan in the Seasonic for a Panaflo 80mm medium speed (80M) fan. You can find them for under $10. I modded a bunch of Super Silencers this way, and all these modded PSUs remain working fine in a variety of systems. It's also as quiet as any PSU you can buy, probably quieter.
