OCZ GameXStream or FSP 700W
I'm interested in these units but I'm worried about the noise level. Any SPCRers out there using them?
oc'd dual core CPU, Crossfire X1900s, watercooling system (pump + 4fans) and 4 HDs. I know it's not gonna suck 700w (slightly 530W load by some calculations), but no other 600W+ has the quad rails, UV fan (:P) and excellent amperage. Plus it's cheap today.El Doug wrote:Ive never seen the fsp used, but I can comment on the GameXStream. Its REALLY REALLY LOUD
OCZ claims that the Modstream is near-silent... and even it is rediculously noisy.
I cant say Ive had experience with the FSP. However, what is possessing you to believe you need 700watts?
I know I should probably get an S12 but they're still not good enough outside of silence.
out of curiosity, what were you running on the GameXStream? And was it in a P180?
I've used quiet a few of the high end power supplies and while both of those are fairly quiet at idle, neither are quiet under load.
The FSP 700 with a fan swap would probably be good, but if you are running dual X1900XT's, then you already have plenty of noise--unless of course you swapped out the stock cooling.
Sounds like your demands are mainly on the 12V rails. Both the S12-600 and the Liberty 620 probably deliver enough amperage on the 12V rails.

My x1900s are also overclocked, driving up the amp requirement. CPU 10A, x1900 ~12A-15A each, pump 3-4A, you can see under full usage it's pretty much sucking up all the amperage the S12s are *spec'd* for (I know they have a much higher failure rate, but still...).psionic wrote:I've used quiet a few of the high end power supplies and while both of those are fairly quiet at idle, neither are quiet under load.

Well, since NCIX had a good deal on the GameStream, I went ahead and grabbed one. Hopefully, I can swap out the fan if it's too loud.
