well, the general spec, its suitability for antec P180 use and user reports on here convinced me to take a chance and take the plunge. Ordered one from Amazon and whilst it does seem to work well with a 7v Nexus in a P180, mine is intermitently making a very high pitched whine or buzzing which is just so loud... its like some sort of smoke alarm or something !
Question is, does this go away ? It sounds kind of like the sort of noise you'd get from new electrical components... maybe thats just wishful thinking. Thing is I spent over 4 hours today untangling and tidying all the cables and putting hose and heatshrink around them. Shall I just RMA this thing 1st thing monday morning and go with the Corsair ?
another Phantom 500 buzzing ?

well
its going back to the shop
buzzes as soon as you push the switch over to position 2 or 3 and its not just audible because i have a quite system, its VERY loud...
also my lower chamber is VERY cool and my readings of the phantom heatsink show its always well below 40C but even on position 1 I see the fan coming on
I don't doubt that many people have samples of these things that work well but I really cant be ar*ed trying another. Its a poor show in my opinion. Looking on the net the amount of people who have experienced this buzzing is quite alarming and given that its a low volume specialist product, it points to quite a high failure/fault rate.
The other thing is, i find that a 7v nexus in front on the phantom ends up making a lot of noise. Its the noise of air being pushed.. a constant whooshing sound and thats my most hated form of noise. Id much rather have the sound of 5 hard drives seeking than any of that whooshing.
Corsair HX520 it is. And hopefully i can run it using just its inherent fan and that also that fan will not exhibit and air displacement noise.
