Phantom and now Corsair HX520 problems !!!!! ARRRGHHH !
somone, anyone, please kindly tell me a power supply that works properly and isn't manufactured by a bunch of incompetents.
beginning to give up on all this quiet psu malarky and just go back to my nexus 3000 which worked flawlessley for 4 years.
i buy a phantom 500w which buzzes like a smoke alarm right throught my house.... next up i get a corsair HX520. I just powered up the pc a minute ago and the monitor didnt turn on and i just got some real loud nasty clicking noises from the PSU. The reset and power switched wouldn't work either so i had to eventually switch the thing off at the mains. The rig is now powered up properly but I am still hearing clicking and crackling noises from the PSU... sounds like burning embers in a bonfire ffs !!!
Whats this all about ? Can't these people make products that work ? If you are no good at something in life then don't do it, do something else, like stick to making memory ..... SIMPLE.

The power supplies you chose are too powerful for your system I think. Some HX520 power supplies make these clicking noises when the load is very low. And it's quite common for a PSU to buzz slightly when the load is either very low or extremely high.

what about the dozens and dozens of other people who have had buzzing and clicking with phantoms and seasonics ..... did they all check their domestic supplys ? No, they didn't. And why didn't they ..... simple, because the problem is with antec and corsair/seasonic, not the London Electricity board !

The load is hardly "very low"; at 100% utilisation it will take over 200W. Seems an RMA is an order; posts on the Corsair help forum seem to suggest it's a problem with the fan, have you tried stopping the fan to see if the noise stops?Crisi wrote:The power supplies you chose are too powerful for your system I think. Yes, but maybe they don't make the Corsair's quite as good as their own PSUs?BTW, the Corsair power supply is made by SeaSonic, which are certainly among the best around.
My S12E+650 buzzes at both low and high loads. It's not very annoying, but the buzz is louder than the PSU fan noise - at least that's what my ears seem to hear.
And no, I can't return it, since I got it shipped from the UK (wasn't available in my country then). Once I build a new system I am counting on it for my work, so I can't replace PSUs at will.
IMO SPCR could investigate why even quality quiet PSUs buzz and work with the manufacturers to sort this out. There's no point to run the fan at 700 rpm with a louder buzz.
