What PSU for new build?
These are the parts that will be going into the computer.
ASUS P5E-VM HDMI LGA 775
Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 Wolfdale
mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Western Digital Caviar GP WD10EACS 1TB
and either
EVGA 512-P3-N861-AR GeForce 9600GT 512MB
OR
EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB
What is a high quality, quiet (obviously, this is spcr), and fairly cheap psu that would easily power this, leaving some headroom?

As always, try checking the PSU Recommended list here. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article699-page1.html
I personally would choose the Corsair VX450 psu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139003
This power supply would leave enough headroom for upgrades while still keeping quiet.

Hello,
Another (slightly) better choice would be the Enermax Pro82+ EPR385AWT 385watt -- slightly quieter, and slightly more efficient, and still plenty of headroom.

Hi, Corsair is a good choice. Ref. power usage I built a PC recently that was E8400 (3GHz), Gigabyte P35 board, 2x2GB DDR2, HD3450, WD 640GB HDD etc. It used Seasonic S12 II 330 PSU and idled around 80w and full load (SMP folding) ~100w (AC figures, est. 65w/80wDC)
Allowing a little for lower clock speed and deducting ~10w for the HD3450 you can see you have loads of power headroom, enough even for SLI and/or quad core CPU etc etc!
Regards, Seb
