Modu82 or Corsair HX?
HX was number one candidate for when I needed to replace this Seasonic. But now the time has come, I see the Enermax is SPCR number one pick.
I also see complaints about noise/quality with the Modu82.
So which one?
Thank you.

Hi if its silence your after then i would take the Modu82 or beter jet Silverstone Dechalon 700w that is supposed to be even queiter then the Modu82. Dont know about the rest of the Dechalon series, and 700w may be a litte extreme depending on your system.
Sorry to say that SPCR have not tested this PSU yet but other sites have and the prefure the Silverstone when it come to acustics over the Modu82.
I would realy want SPCR to review the Silverstone DA700 beacuse I realy value there opinion and quality of testing.
But if its just the HX adn the Modu82, then Modu82 all the way.

I tend to favor the Seasonic built Corsair units.
I tend to favor lowest price I can go for the quality level I want.
I tend to favor overall efficiency and noise levels instead of focusing on the top end or bottom end.
Given the price concern and the typical system loads are usually under 200 watts it usually means I'll choose the cheaper PSU regardless of the wattage it's labeled as.
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article813-page5.html shows the noise comparison and the table below shows the efficiency.
By the numbers the Enermax Pro82+ would make the cut but I'm just not ready to deal with their reliability record. I'll take my chances with Seasonic made units instead.

So I'd look at the TX650, the HX520, and the VX450 and buy on price as they are all good enough for my concerns.Redbeard wrote:The manufacturer breaks down like this:

Efficiency as appropriate
Corsair VX450W 79.1% 80.1% 82.6% 84.8% 83.3% 83.0% 81.8%
Corsair HX520W 72.5% 77.1% 81.0% 84.5% 85.2% 85.1% 81.3%
Enermax Modu82+ 625 80.0% 80.9% 84.3% 85.9% 86.4% 85.4% 83.8%
Corsair TX650W 77.5% 81.9% 81.6% 83.1% 82.3% 83.6% 80.9%
The enermax pro82+ series is a good choice.
I'm using a 385W Version and I'm very happy with it. It is stable and quiet.
One point of critics is the SATA-cable ... there is only 1 cable with all the SATA connectors together and you can't use it for the hdds and for a SATA DVD ... because of the distance. So you have to use a SATA-Power-Adapter for 5.25".

Clearly, corsair offers a better value for the price.
Now if you don't consider the price, I still hesitate to say the enermax is better because the build quality is not as good as the corsair.
At http://enthusiast.hardocp.com
the corsair hx620w got agold award
while the enermax modu82 625w got asilver award,
because although the enermax got quality components,
they didn't like how it was built inside.
Finally, some people prefer cables provided with enermax ...
If you are ready to burn some money,
maybe you could consider a Zalman ZM-850hp too....
Obviously at SPCR, they don't like psu with too much wattage, but see the review of the 1000 W model, very silent .... (same for 850w). Models with less wattage from Zalman, are unfortunately more noisy.
