My seasonic s12-380 is humming...vibrating

Post by gbyss00 » Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:39 pm

I had FSP300-60thn in my lian li cube case with Yonah in gigabyte MODT system
After getting a 9800gt, I upgrade PSU to Seasonic 380 and now I getting low pitch sound from the case.

From what i can feel, its coming from top and side panels vibrating.

Seriously considering either changing back to FSP or swapping the fan

Which is better idea?

Or it there other 300watt ish MATX PSU w/ pci-e 6 pin connector and better effiency out there?

Hi,

Have you looked at the Fortron Source Green 80Plus 350watt?

I see mass-loading in your future...

That's a lot of aluminum that is going to flop around with the amount of vibrations being introduced. Try to find the source of the vibrations first (fans, HDDs), and see if there is a way to isolate it from the rest of the case.

It is a nice PSU but that one doesnt have 6 pin PCI-E connector

And yes I do know for sure that it is the PSU fan thats causing the vibration[/quote]

No, but this one does. Or you can buy an 4-pin molex to PCIe adapter for <$3.

If a brand new Seasonic is having vibration issues, I'd RMA it. Failing that, you can try to isolate the PSU from the case panels, or try a fan swap. Last option is to replace with another PSU (like above).

You could also use a soft piece of fabric or foam and wedge it in between the PSU and the case before screwing it down tight to get the same effect.

I doubt that it will solve all of your noise problems however. Mass loading will likely be necessary.
