New sparkle fanless PSU: SPI 120GNF

Post by ecidious » Fri Dec 25, 2009 4:43 pm

I was looking at idotpc@com the other day and saw the SPI 120GNF there.
Sorry I'd post a link but unfortunately this forum discriminates against me because I'm new.

Googling it hasn't turned up anything, so I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about it. Looks like a nice alternative to power bricks + pico psu's, especially since it would be all internally mounted.

SPI 120GNF Flex ATX 120W Fanless Power Supply

Here's the link for all of you. Looks like a pretty nice product. Especially since most flex ATX PSUs use a 40mm fan which is rarely quiet. At $62, it should be cheaper than a picoPSU + brick. I would hope it would be comparable in efficiency. Thanks for pointing this out.

Whoa. Awesome, thanks! This is totally what I need for a couple of builds I'm doing. :)

The 82% minimum (@20% load?) efficiency hints that indeed it should be comparable to a pico psu. It can reach it`s rated output at an ambient temperature of 50 degrees something the pico psu can`t do.

Also, unlike a pico psu, it regulates the 12v line though it`s max output is just under 100 watts. That might prove limiting in a core 2 htpc build for example.

So will this fit right into an Antec Solo, or would I have to do some customizing?

It looks like it would require an adapter plate to infill the "extra" space for an ATX PSU.

Does anyone know where you can buy an adapter plate? I had been planning on just making one myself because google is useless for this.
