My corsair 450HX fan is loud, disable?
Hi I bought the corsair 450hx way back in 2006, and I think the fan is a bit loud. I'm wondering if I can just stick a tie in there to stop the fan, and as my system runs around 120 watts,
the PSU has a 120mm fan on bottom, but I can hear it a couple of feet away, so
perhaps attach a quieter fan underneath it like a 120mm scythe fan. It would rest above a scythe ninja fan with air directed into it.
Would this work well?

You will still have current going to a stalled fan motor. The results may be much worse than your current situation. Removing the fan would be a better idea, if the PSU doesn't fault out (someone else will know more than me about this). The best idea would be to either replace the fan with a quieter unit, or swap out the PSU for a quieter or fanless model.

I think I'm still under warranty. Swapping out the fan idea had occurred to me though. Buying a fanless PSU like the Zen would be nice.
I actually bought the Corsair based on SPCR recommended and it's not as quiet as I had hoped in terms of fan speed so I'm a bit hesitant to buy the Nexus. I guess SPCR and I have different ideas on what quiet is.

I don't see any recommendations for the HX 450 anywhere on SPCR. Sure you didn't read the VX450 one and then confused the two? Or the HX520/620?dan wrote:I actually bought the Corsair based on SPCR recommended and it's not as quiet as I had hoped in terms of fan speed so I'm a bit hesitant to buy the Nexus. Looks like the HX450 has a 7 year warranty by the way:

ur right vx450
I stick a plastic cable tie to stop the fan, seems quiet to me.walle wrote:First stop the fan in the PSU (when the system is up and running) and listen for potential coil whine and/or buzzing noise.
Nothing is to be gained here with swapping the fan and void the guarantee if afterwards you end up with another source of noise.
Is there a place where I can see how to mod and substitute the fan? Will any 12cm fan work?
