PSU recommendations?
Can anyone suggest a budget-friendly and quiet PSU (350 to 450 watt) that fits a micro-ATX case?
Re: PSU recommendations?
What's the case? They all have different PSU (physical) size constraints.

Apex DM-317-A is the case, but I'll be ditching its included power supply. Right now I'm liking the Corsair SF series SF450.CA_Steve wrote:What's the case? They all have different PSU (physical) size constraints.

Not much on the way of specs for that case on their website...or anywhere on the web for that matter...looks non-optimal from a cooling perspective...
The included PSU is TFX form factor....not sure if you can fit an SFX PSU in there...you better measure the space and mounting area to see if SFX will conform...if so, then sure, Corsair is a good choice. Overkill, but a good choice, if you don't go Pico PSU.
Have you bought this case already?

Re: PSU recommendations?
No, the only component I have is the NIC (Intel EXPI9402PT) and its low profile bracket (Intel EIG42ET), but this is the case I have settled on. I was thinking SFX was smaller than TFX...shows what I know! Any recommendations on a reasonably quiet TFX PSU? It has to have mostly good buyer reviews. 50/50 reviews like the Pico has is not good enough.CA_Steve wrote:Not much on the way of specs for that case on their website...or anywhere on the web for that matter...looks non-optimal from a cooling perspective...

Perhaps the $40 Seasonic SS-300TGW or for $15 more, the modular SS-350TGM. Both are available at NewEgg. Here's the 5yr old review.
Re: PSU recommendations?
Thanks for the tip! I will look into the SS-350TGM. I just did a tour of a couple power supply calculators that said I need 250 to 300 watt, so the SS-300TGW is too close to the minimum for comfort.CA_Steve wrote:Perhaps the $40 Seasonic SS-300TGW or for $15 more, the modular SS-350TGM. i3 51W
lan board 5w
mobo and everything else 30W.
total = 86W

..and likely router load = 35-45W.

Power supply calculators are just random numbers generators, avoid them like the plague.Jatismara wrote:I just did a tour of a couple power supply calculators that said I need 250 to 300 watt
Do yourself a favour: buy also a power meter, so that you may stop to believe in all those fairy tales.
Re: PSU recommendations?
The specs are being fine-tuned as needed, so nothing is set yet, but as of today complete specs are:quest_for_silence wrote:Which are your complete specs?Jatismara wrote:Can anyone suggest a budget-friendly and quiet PSU (350 to 450 watt) that fits a micro-ATX case?
CASE: HEC Compucase 7K09BBA30FNRX
CASE FAN: Noctua NF-R8-1800
CPU: Intel core i3-4160
CPU COOLER: Cryorig C7
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H-A
RAM: Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9
SSD: Intel 530 or 535 series, 120GB
SSD MOUNTING BRACKET: Sabrent BK-HDDF
NIC: Intel EXPI9402PT
NIC LOW-PROFILE BRACKET: Intel E1G42ET
DVD-ROM: Asus DVD-E818AAT/BLK/B/GE
MISC: 2-Port Compact USB VGA KVM #GCS42UW6
Note that I had to ditch my first choice case. Its included PSU was not acceptable, and the only replacement anyone found was an off brand (Solid Gear) with mixed buyer reviews. Hopefully the HEC case PSU will be easier to replace. I'm thinking Seasonic SS-TFX or SS-300TGW, but not been able to track down size of the included PSU, so not sure if either will fit....anyone know for sure? My third choice case is Apex MJ-16, but I'm not liking its size. Already have a space-hog (Cooler Master Storm Trooper) for my PC, & don't need another for my router.

Re: PSU recommendations?
I am unclear why you don't get a case without a PSU, and then get a quiet PSU of your choice?
